oakland parents are trying to stop crime and violce against their children by fighting back. they joined forces with oakland police at a community meeting to come up with solutions for keeping children safe. terry mcsweeney is live at the elementary school in st oakland. >> morthan 100 people turned out here at this elementary school auditorium, talked for about an hour and a half to police telling them something that the officers probably already knew and that is there is a big problem out here. police responded by saying we will do what we can with what we have. and as far as doing your part, would you please do yours.

the questns were mainly directed at the captain of the oakland police department, the representatives of the school board and the open unified school district police re there as well. they came from an auditorium in which gunfire can almost be heard a nightly basis. >> unfortunately i don't have the liberty to sit her and cry working what i have. we have very low staffing numbers, although not on called and increasing. >> violent crime overall in the neigorhood near green leaf elementary school is actually down. thoughhotings are up. >> i'm pay firm believer you consider the crime. if we d't know who the individus are -- drastically drop the crime rate. >> the meeting was called for the violence in the streets and rage that nothing'seing done. >> i'm feeling a lot of anger internally from a lot of people. i myself was a victim of a robbery as well by gunpoint.

had been left open by mistake. officers say he game agitad d broke two windows before theyased him. >> pleasa hill an accident involving a big rig loaded with hay halls injured one woman and created quite a mess. sky 7 hd is live where the truck slipped over. the injured woman was in one of the cars hit by those hay bails. she's been takeno the hospital. no word how serious her injuries are or what caused the big rig to slip but they are reloading the truck now. >> oakland police are trying to determine if three suspects are responsible for eight robberies in the last 24 hours. police say the suspects led them on a 45-minute high-speed chase across part of the bay bridge twice. officers finally managed to stop the car at 23rd avenue in oakland around 2:00 this morning. two of the suspects were taken into custy. a third person was arrested

affidavit a search of a nearby home. >> san carlos they're sure a fire warehouse that stored memorabilia belonging to neil young started in a vintage cash that the rog legend had converted into a hybridvehicle. it started in young's 1959 lincoln continental an spread to the rest of the warehouse. crews were able to save most of the singer's other items including other vintage cars and musical instruments. >> this fire broke out about 90 minutes on pier 70. the fire department said the fire broke out in a pile of debris. here's aicture from sky 7 hd. the burning pile includes two muni buse retired from use. they have put out that fire. a high school principal in the santa clara county city of campbell is under fire for refusing to let an ambulance drive on a football field to help an injured player. the mother is waiting for an

apology. her son suffered a concussion october 29th at the high school. theresa joins us from campbell. any action taken against the principal? >> cheryl, frankly we don't know if the district has taken any action against the principal or if it plans to and that's because a spokesrson came up us to p said they have no comment whatsoever becae it is undergoing on investigation. even as this team recuperating, the situation has a lot of people infuriated who cannot fathom choosing the field over a child's health. >> well, the child's health need to come first. that's most important. hearing this coming from you instead of coming from the school is actually disturbing, too. >> schools at del mar high aren't talking about the situation. debbie is one o many surprised patience concerned after hearing from abc 7 that they refused an

♪ for the first time since the vietnam war, a living american soldier is being awarded the medal of honor. we have a ceremony going on right now at the white house. this is a live picture. you can see president obama right there handing out the award to arm staff arg salvador. he is bein honored for when he served in afghanistan. he was ambushed. the 25-yeaold from iowa was under pressure, under fire when he pulled a fellow soldr to safety and resed another being carrieaway by insurgents. >> i cat take this for myself. so i'm gonna think abou them and when it happens, i'll be thinking about them. and when it's done, i'll be thinking about them.
